What exactly is Xentara?

“Xentara is the most open, flexible, and powerful real-time capable control and convergence platform spanning IT and OT – created to accelerate the Fourth Industrial Revolution and bring about the paradigms of Manufacturing X.”

Well, that’s quite a mouthful. So, as we prefer to say:

Xentara is: Enabling the Future

Connecting the Worlds of IT and OT

Model-Based Architecture for Easy Configuration

Semantic Model

Hierarchically structure and organize data from different sources in a unified model. Set up your own semantic with unlimited multi-language ontologies.

Timing Model

Tightly control all processes in local and distributed systems with nanosecond accuracy and out-pace any PLC cycle, powered by Xentara’s unique Real-Time Core.

Security Model

Protect your data integrity and sovereignty with Xentara’s advanced multi-mesh security model, making sure you can trust your systems in a connected world.

Connect Everything

One of the problems with the digitalization of industry is an abundance of different field buses, protocols and control types. Xentara unifies these heterogenous concepts and connects entire shop floors across system boundaries and can link them seamlessly to local Edge IT or overarching enterprise level systems. Its open interfaces are specifically customizable, with easy handling and error management.

Add the Functionality You Need

Since Xentara is designed to be modular, it is easy to add new connectors and abilities. Are you integrating a new machine? There’s a connector for that. Do you want to automatically monitor your production line’s OEE? Just install the OEE extension.

And if you have need of an obscure protocol or a bespoke function, developing new Xentara extensions is made easy by its open interface and powerful API.

Out-Perform any Legacy System

Legacy PLCs measure their cycle times in tens or even hundreds of milliseconds. But If you want fine direct control on fast motor axes or high-precision actuators, you realize reaction times below the millisecond threshold can quickly become necessary, especially in complex systems. That’s why Xentara supports cycle times of 250µs and below (depending on hardware) with single switch reaction time accuracy in the nanosecond range.

Retrofit Entire Brownfields

Legacy equipment can now be made IoT ready with minimum effort! Xentara can run on nearly any edge device and brings connectivity and smart functionality to “dumb” machines. Entire machine fleets can be integrated and optimized without expensive replacement procedures. These upgrades require minimal downtime, making sure there is no unnecessary disruption of production processes.

Process Your Data

Data aggregators aren’t flashy, but a necessity for anyone who needs to feed a data pipeline from multiple sources. Xentara not only excels at connecting all those different sources, but also at scaling, limit testing, processing, converting and unifying all incoming data. It provides the perfect base for analytics, visualization and machine learning models.

Swiftly Debug Your Applications

Nobody likes chasing bugs, so we’re at least making it as easy as possible. The Xentara debugger is an interactive terminal application that can be used to interact with a running instance of Xentara. The debugger allows you to perform a variety of actions on the Xentara instance it is connected to by typing commands at the debugger prompt. It also has an extensive built-in help system.

Robert Schachner, Co-Founder of embedded ocean / Xentara

“During decades of work with industrial automation and control systems, I have successfully delivered over 300 finished projects to my customers. In that time I have gained a lot of knowledge about the needs of the market and the necessities for true real-time control. The first thing we did after founding embedded ocean was draft up the requirements for the unique Real-Time Core that lies at the heart of Xentara and its timing model. Today we can proudly say: Milliseconds are for amateurs!”
